The cooling system of a vehicle is designed to cool internal engine components and lubricate water pump seals and bearings as well as to prevent engine coolant freeze and internal engine corrosion. In other words, it keeps the car from freezing or from boiling over.

At Orleans AutoPro, we suggest that you do a cooling system flush every 2 years or 50,000 kilometres. When you bring your vehicle to us for a cooling system flush, we will test the coolant for pH, reserve alkalinity and protection levels. If we find that these levels have dropped below acceptable levels, we would advise you to do a full service.

Getting a timely cooling system flush done, benefits your vehicle several ways:

Tops up necessary lubricants for the water pump bearings
Provides optimum protection against boiling or freezing
Reduces oxidation and corrosion of sensitive seals in the engine
Prevents catastrophic damage due to foaming of the coolant

Failure to get a cooling system flush done every 50,000 kilometres or 2 years puts your vehicle at higher risk for the following:

Damage to the water pump
Head gasket leaks
Corrosion of the heater core
Corrosion in the radiator

In a worst-case scenario, failure to do a cooling system flush could also result in complete engine failure and expensive repair work. Being proactive about regular car maintenance is the best way to reduce paying for unnecessary vehicle repairs. The best way to do this is to check your manufacturer’s specifications and get a cooling system flush done within that schedule.
