The company was launched in 1872 in Milan by 24 year old engineer Giovanni Battista Pirelli. The first facility for the manufacture of rubber products was up and running within a year of its launch. Having been involved in motor racing since 1907, Pirelli is recognized as one of the leading manufacturers of high-end and performance tyres. The company is the exclusive tyre manufacturer for the 2011-2013 Formula 1 championship seasons and for several World Superbike Championships.
